CS130ACSE

The CS130 series of alternators is by far our most popular racing alternator. When these units first hit the streets in GM vehicles in the late 80’s, they were a problem looking for a place to happen. They were designed to be a throw away unit, meaning not rebuildable. A large percentage of them did not make out of GM’s warranty period, and the units quickly garnered a bad reputation, a very deserving reputation.
However that was almost two decades ago. And as with most things, technology increases, and things are modified and changed. To that point, our version of the CS130 is nothing like its predecessor, all engineering flaws have been corrected, and with new technology parts, better assemble practices, we now have extremely reliable units, that have several features not found on other types of alternators.

Bearings: The rear bearing was the major cause of failure, in the winter, for the original CS130 units. To over come this we use a roller bearing rear bearing that is a full 25% thicker than the original ones. The front bearing is also 7mm wider and 2mm thicker. With roller bearings front and rear, these units can withstand higher rpms than the older “si” series alternators. It should be noted that we use only Premium Japanese bearings, like NTN, Nachi, NSK, and Koyo.

Rectifier: The rectifier in the CS130 is one of the biggest reasons we promote this alternator’s use in modern racing and other demanding applications. These units have what is called avalanche diodes in them. Your alternator is the biggest source of voltage spikes in your electrical system. The avalanche diodes suppress spikes at 32 volts, where as the older style button diodes can let a 200volt spike through the system. Most electronics can handle 32 volt spikes, next to none can handle 200 volts. Well it is true that most expensive electronic come with there own protection, nothing is perfect. So be addressing the problem at the source, you greatly reduce the risk of premature failure of your expensive parts.
Delco’s original 35amp avalanche diode rectifiers were notorious for failing in the hot summer months. To over come this we use only Transpo’s patented “Ram Air” rectifiers. The 55amp diode rectifier is found in all of our Standard CS130ACSE units. We bump up to the 70amp diode units for our Thunder and Lightning Series units. Top quality rectifiers, made in America.

Rotors and Stators: These are the pieces that produce the power. We won’t say much other than we did extensive testing before settling on the combinations we have. We looked for low end output, and then over all performance. These are what sets the man apart from the boys. Anyone can make a 120,160, or even a 200 amp alternator, but what do you get at idle. That is what puts us on the leading edge.
All of our units are tested on computerized test benches, they are tested hot, and to SAE standards. We don’t fudge numbers, we don’t test freezing cold, we don’t hide anything. Every one of our units comes with its own personal test sheet, not a photo copy, etc.

Misc.: These units have dual fans, one internal and one external. So they cool much better than the older units. Which is very important when you start talking high output. Our Thunder and Lightning series unit produce more heat than any of the burners on your stove at home.
We use only lead free soldier in all of our connections, as it withstands higher heat. All of the through bolts and pulley nuts are treated with blue thread locker to prevent any loosing.
Each and every unit is built by hand, by a very experience builder, who is willing to put his reputation on the line with every unit he produces. We take pride in everything we do.

Applications: We have a standard mounting pattern that bolts right in place of the older 10 and 12 si series alternators. We also carry 6 other front housings in case you are trying to mount one in a non GM application. One of these mounts fits well into a Ford, a small 1/2 spacer is usually the only thing needed. There are over 100 different pulleys available for these units. So we can match the alternators output curve to your application and driving habits. We do not charge extra for any one of our standard pulleys, including several deep grooves. Let us build an alternator to your application, instead of just making do with what’s on the shelf.
